The LAWA Freshwater Mussel
Young LAWA Mussels attach themselves to endangered salmonids for protection (click for link). Later, they drop off the fish onto the Lake Washington nearshorelands and mature. The health of this discovered LAWA Freshwater Mussel (2003) is an indication of the survival rate of salmonids on Lake Washington. The quality of the LAWA Mussel beds on Lake Washington is critical for the ultimate health of all species in the habitat.
