University Village Old/New Water Level

The black line shows the pre-1916 water line. The Lake was lowered to the Lake Union level when the Lake Washington Ship Canal opened. The Burke-Gilman Trail bends around what used to be wetlands that extended over a quarter of a mile from the Lake, a rich wintering ground for the Duwamish People.
